Worship

The services of this congregation, like all Episcopal congregations, and other liturgical churches, follows a simple pattern laid out in The Book of Common Prayer.  This Prayer Book, now more than 450 years old, has been revised many times, but it connects us with the prayer of our past and the prayer of most of the world’s Christians.

The main service on Sundays and other days is called “The Holy Eucharist” or “The Holy communion,” or “The Mass”  or “the Lord’s supper.”  It consists of

  •  Hymns and prayers of praise,

  •  the reading of scripture,

  •  a sermon or “homily”,

  •  the recitation of the Nicene Creed,

  •  prayers of for the church and for the world,

  •  and the great banquet Christ commanded in which

  •      bread and wine is offered,

  •      over which thanksgiving is said,

  •      the bread is broken,

  •      and the bread and wine shared around the Lord’s table.

You are welcome to worship with us regardless of your background.  We understand that going to a new church filled with strangers can be intimidating.  We have designed our worship so that anyone can participate, even if it is their very first visit to an Episcopal church.  This service will be very familiar to Roman Catholics. Lutherans and others with a liturgical background.

Music

Hymns are an important of our service and everyone is invited to join in.  Most hymns are accompanied by piano and are from the Book of Common Prayer which is a collection of hymns from all ages of the Christian church.

We have a small but enthusiastic choir led by our music director Lori Scissors.   Please see our calendar page for when the Choir rehearses.  The choir often sings an anthem (song) during the gathering of gifts from the people.
